In typical fashion, here they have created a mythical land inhabited by strange beasts that wouldn’t look out of place in the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. There are mountains, epic red skies and fires to behold behind the reel set. And then of course, four monsters plucked from various mythical tales and ancient legends – medusas, minotaur’s, sprites and cyclops. And of course, there is a very dramatic score in the background too.
So, when you load this one up you get the feeling you are in for an epic journey. And that top payout of 50,000x suggests big things are about to happen too. The action starts from 20p per play. Let’s find out more.
RTP, Variance and Top Payout
This is a cluster pays grid slot. That means the action plays out on a 7×7 grid – symbols drop onto the reels and must form clusters of 5 or more to trigger a win. The variance is set to a medium level, so this is not quite the high-risk thrill ride we have come to expect from Blueprint Gaming. Instead, the payouts are fairly evenly distributed and fairly regular. You will need to get very luck to get anywhere near that 50,000x top payout. Most won’t see wins of more than 100x to 500x. The RTP is set to 96.46% which is pretty average too.
Symbols and Paytable
There are four low value symbols in the game. These are represented by the four orbs of different colours – green, blue, red, and yellow. Â These orbs can reward you with a 25x bet win if you land a cluster of 25 or more matching ones. Premium icons are shown as the shields of Medusa, Minotaur, Firefly, and the Cyclops. The Minotaur shield will deliver 1,000x bet for the max cluster of 25. The other three beasts will get you from 100x to 500x.
Look out as well for the Wild which is there to substitute for all regular symbols to create winning clusters, and the Scatter which triggers the Legend Falls feature.
Gameplay and Features
Cascading Reels Feature
We all know this one – with every winning cluster, the Cascading Reels feature is activated. Symbols in winning clusters are removed, and new icons land in the vacant positions on the reels to give you opportunities for successive wins. Cascades continue until there are no more new winning clusters.
Legend Feature
Every winning cluster will add symbols to the symbol bank on the left side of the screen. Depending on how many symbols you collect in a single winning cascade (because the bank is reset after a non-winning spin), you can trigger one of these Legend features:
Medusa feature– triggered when 20 symbols are collected. Medusa will turn all premium symbols into stone and remove low-value symbols. Stones fall on the bottom of the grid, and new icons are added on the reels.
Minotaur feature– active after 40 collected symbols. Random Wilds will be added to the gird, and some of them will come with multipliers. If two or more multiplier Wilds find themselves in the same winning cluster, multipliers will be combined.
Firefly feature– triggered after 60 collected symbols. Firefly will burn all low-value symbols and only premium symbols will appear on the following cascade.
Cyclops feature– active after 80 symbols are in the bank. All instances of three different symbols are upgraded to the Cyclops shield symbol. After that, a payout is calculated.
Legend Falls Feature
Five or more Bonus Scatters on the reels will trigger the Legend Falls feature. Here you get 7 Free Spins, but with a difference. Now, the Legend features triggers more frequently because you need to collect only half the number of symbols in the bank as you do in the base game.
Our Verdict
Realm of Legends is a fine-looking slot – it is a kind of mish mash of a lot of epic, mythical slots, using elements from ancient historical tales and blending them with some classic grid slot elements. The modifiers are fun enough – it feels a bit like Reactoonz as you go through and attempt to collect symbols to trigger upgrades and extra wilds. The best chance you have of scoring a significant win is in the free spins round where it becomes easier to trigger a modifier. The medium variance keeps things ticking over nicely too so there are fairly regular events throughout the base game. All in, it’s a fair grid slot, not the best, but not a clanger either!
