Big Time Gaming have announced the release date for their next slot which is called Opal Fruits. It will arrive on the SG Digital Network on 29thMay and promises to take players in a new direction after the avalanche of Megaways™ slots from both BTG and their licensed partners in recent months.
BTG CEO Nik Robinson has made no secret of the fact that Opal Fruits aims to be a direct challenger to Starburst, the ubiquitous free spins slot from NetEnt. Indeed, anyone old enough to know will have spotted the cheeky name-check to the previous moniker for Wrigley’s chewy sweets. Yes, Starburst sweets used to be called Opal Fruits.
So BTG have described this new title as a low stakes, high turnover game – a ‘bonusing game’ on which casinos will give away free spins.
So, how will Opal Fruits slot play out? Well, it promises to be a simpler mechanic than the Megaways™ engine, whilst still offering an edge-of-the-seat experience with free spins with re-triggers, cascading wins and unlimited progressive mulitpliers adding a familiar feel to the game. The twist comes in the form of a new trademarked system called Triple Reaction™ which gives a dizzying three different directions of spin in each play – left to right in the top 1×4 reel, right to left in the bottom 1×4 reel, and the usual top to bottom in the middle 6×3 reels.
Like many BTG games, Opal Fruits will include a cascading wins format where symbols in winning lines are removed and replaced with new ones with the possibility of creating new winlines on the same spin. This creates more excitement in the free spins round when combined with the progressive multiplier feature.
Whilst these are familiar features to anyone who has ever played Bonanza, Extra Chili or other BTG slots, the Australian game developer has promised that longer sessions with low stakes play are possible on Opal Fruits so perhaps we will see the variance toned down a notch.
And like all of their previous games, Opal Fruits is notable for high production values and attention to detail with a Daft Punk-esque soundtrack that samples from retro arcade games like Defender and Robotron 2084 whilst providing the perfect backdrop to stunning visuals and light shows.
Nik Robinson, Big Time Gaming CEO, said: “We have achieved a new level of player retention with Opal Fruits. Triple Reaction™ brings a brand-new fun factor, doubling down on what we have achieved with our monster hits, Bonanza, Extra Chilli and Who Wants to be a Millionaire? The game has a simpler learning curve than our Megaways™ titles and at just 10p per spin, players could have hours of fun with just a £10 deposit.”
Dylan Slaney, SVP Casino at SG Digital, said: “Opal Fruits shows a new level of detail that is a welcome addition to our market-leading content aggregation platform. Big Time Gaming is a key partner for Scientific Games and we are delighted to be launching Opal Fruits exclusively on our platform.”
