MORE ABOUT HANZO’S DOJO SLOT
Yggdrasil are a game studio with a deserved reputation for releasing slots with high production values, exciting themes and great gameplay. Highlights of their catalogue in 2018 include the Mexican wrestling slot, Lucha Maniacs and the weird and wonderful Penguin City.
Hanzo’s Dojo is another beautifully crafted game – the visuals are slick and eye catching and there are lots of features that regularly trigger to keep you engaged.
The Dojo in the game title is a training or meditation space used by martial arts fighters and is the backdrop to the reels, but what makes this game interesting is the additional 3×1 mini reel set up that sits on the roof top of the Dojo. On this reel you can land special Free Spins Boosters, Expanding Wilds and extra spins with locked Colossal Symbols.
There’s a lot to take in, and a lot going on during every spin in Hanzo’s Dojo, but that is what we have come to expect from Yggdrasil. Let’s take a closer look …
Hanzo’s Dojo Game Set Up
The basic reel set up here is 5×3 with 25 fixed paylines. Above the main reel set, on the Dojo rooftop is the extra mini 3×1 reel set. The game can be played from 25p up to £125 per spin.
Hanzo is a legendary trainer who invites fighters to his Japanese training center, or Dojo, where they can be prepared for battle.
Hanzo’s Dojo Game Symbols
On the main 5×3 reel set …
The low value symbols in the game are the bonzai trees, birds, windstorms and waves. The high value, premium symbols are the fighters themselves – samurai, ninja, sumo and fan fighter. The sumo is the highest paying of all.
Look out as well for the wild symbols which replaces all others on the reels bar the scatter to create winning lines.
On the mini-slot 3×1 reel set …
There are three different symbols on this reel set – the Hanzo, the Expanding Wild and the Free Spins.
Hanzo’s Dojo Features
There are plenty of features in Hanzo’s Dojo and the action comes thick and fast. Here’s how they work:
This is triggered by landing 3 Hanzo symbols on the rooftop reels. You get 3 Hanzo spins, during which one randomly chosen symbol will be locked into the center reels as a 3×3 symbol.
Expanding Wild Feature
When an Expanding Wild symbol lands in the rooftop reel set it expands to the reel below in the main set, creating a Wild Reel.
Landing three Expanding Wild symbols in the top reel set also has the same effect as landing three Hanzo symbols – setting off three Hanzo spins. However, in this instance, the 3×3 symbol locked into the center reels would be a wild.
You need to land 3 or more Free Spins (scatter) symbols to trigger any of the Free Spins modes. Your Free Spins symbols can be a combination from the main reel set and the rooftop set. Each scatter on the main set gets you 3 spins and each on the rooftop reel set gets you 4 spins.
During the free spins round the middle 3 reels will only contain Colossal 3×3 symbols and the rooftop set will only contain blank symbols or free spins (scatter) symbols.
During Free Spins, landing additional scatters in the rooftop set gets you boosters as follows:
- 2 Extra Spins – added to the round.
- 2x multiplier applied to every spin in the round
- Wild 5thReel – entire 5threel turns wild.
- Pays both ways – lines worth left to right and right to left.
- 3×3 Symbol Nudge – the Colossal symbol in the middle reel can move up or down by up to 3 positions to create the best possible outcome.
THE SLOT BUZZ VERDICT
This is a really exciting game from Yggdrasil. The slot looks superb and there are so many things going on. The real fun comes in the bonus round if you can trigger free spins then start adding boosters– additional spins and multipliers combined with Pays Both Ways for example. It’s not as complicated as it sounds but it’ll keep you engaged long past many new releases this year. Hanzo’s Dojo may not please all the big high variance slot fans out there, but for those who just love great entertainment, it’s definitely a winner.
