ALL ABOUT GREAT RHINO MEGAWAYS™ SLOT
Pragmatic Play are the latest in the growing line of studios to take on Big Time Gaming’s game-changing slot format. As we all know by now the Megaways™ games are coming thick and fast. So to stand out from the crowd you better make yours something special – you know, throw in some curve ball features, play with the number of paylines, or even just throw 3 extra reel sets in there for good measure! Pragmatic seemed to miss that meeting because Great Rhino is pretty much as generic as they come. I guess we can give them a pass because it’s their first effort at taking on the expanding reels, but surely they’ll have to be more creative in the future if they are to start producing titles that can take on their rivals. Let’s dive in to see what makes this slot tick.
GAME SET-UP, SYMBOLS AND GRAPHICS
Savannah backdrops, marauding wildlife – we’ve seen this before on the high variance scene. In particular, the other famous Rhino slot, the Raging Rhino one, has been a cult classic for many years. Pragmatic have done a good job of designing a pretty epic African backdrop and building the tension with a tribal drum soundtrack. On the six reels themselves there are between two and seven rows of symbols depending on how the game lands after each spin. There is also the standard 4×1 reel above the main one which Megaways™ fans will be familiar with. In total we have up to 200,704 paylines in play at full stretch.
The low value symbols are the cards, 10 through to Ace. The high value symbols are the animals – cheetahs, the flamingo, the hyena, the crocodile and the gorilla. The flamingoes come in at the top payout of 50x for six on a line. Watch out as well for the important Wild Rhino symbol which subs for all others but only appears in the top 4×1 set.
GREAT RHINO SLOT RTP, VARIANCE AND PAYOUTS
The RTP for this Pragamatic Play slot can be set at 96.48% to 96.58% which is fair. Remember that the variance, like most Megaways™ slots, is set at high which means chasing down big wins may come with hours of frustrations as the reels return empty time and again. However, the win sequences can be super-charged when they do arrive, so be ready. The top payout is a competitive 20,000x, and you can spin from 20p per play. Always choose your stake responsibly and carefully – it’s easy to burn through your balance in no time with games like this one.
GAMEPLAY AND FEATURES
Like all good high-risk slots, the action picks up properly in the bonus round, here unlocked by landing four or more coin scatters. The more you land, the more spins you get. There are free spins AND multipliers on offer and before the round kicks in you’ll need to decide which combination of the two you want, each with its own variance setting:
15 free spins and 1x multiplier
10 free spins and 5x multiplier
5 free spins and 10x multiplier
A Mystery denomination – gamble to see what you get!
Again, as with many Megaways™ games, when a win cascade sequence is playing out, every cascade will add one more 1x to your multiplier total. It’s still great fun to watch that multiplier increase as you land more and more wins. Additionally, you can score 5 more spins in the round by landing another 4 scatters.
OK, we laid it out in the introduction to this review, Great Rhino is not a game that has pushed Pragmatic to the limits of their creativity. It’s not unusual for a developer to go easy when they build their first Megaways™ title so it’s no surprise really that this slot follows the standard template. It is still a good game though with a nice design and a good soundtrack to enjoy whilst you spin the reels. And like all titles in the series, it can deliver big time. Just don’t drive yourself crazy trying to unlock the riches. Have fun, and play responsibly.
