Annihilator is another heavy-metal slot from Play n Go featuring the Canadian thrash metal band of the same name. It is a high variance game with 10 fixed paylines and a top payout of 5,000x. It includes wilds, expanding wilds and a wild trail feature in the bonus round. Players can trigger up to 50 free spins by landing extra scatters for more chances to hit the jackpot.

Annihilator Slot Review

ALL ABOUT ANNIHILATOR SLOT

The synergies between rock n roll and gambling have led to many a classic song, from The Rolling Stone’s Tumbling Dice to Motorhead’s Ace of Spades. And it works the other way too – slot studios have come up with many games that have been inspired by legends of music, like Guns n Roses and Jimi Hendrix (both part of NetEnt’s Rock Series) and Elvis the King (from WMS). We’ve even seen the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne himself get in on the action in another NetEnt slot as well as fronting his own slot site, Metal Casino.

For their part, Play n Go have produced a series of metal music slots, including the horror-themed House of Doom and the monkey-fest that is Banana Rock. Here they’ve drawn inspiration from a little-known journeyman thrash metal band from Canada called Annihilator. It doesn’t look as pretty as the previous games we’ve mentioned but it still has some kick with a reasonably high variance and a 5,000x top payout. Enhancements come in the form of wilds that expand and leave trails to boost your wins, as well as a free spins round with up to 50 available.

GAME SET-UP, SYMBOLS AND GRAPHICS

Annihilator are not singing us nursery rhymes here and the backdrop to the reel set in their game reflects the music with its dark grey building fronted by big, creepy iron gates. The reels themselves are 5×3. Low value symbols come in the form of the cards, 10 through to Ace. The high value symbols mix music imagery with horror-movie symbols. There is a guitar, a broken picture frame and a faded picture of a girl holding a teddy bear. The girl is the highest value symbol at 30x for five on a line.

Look out as well for the important Wild symbol, represented by Jeff Waters, mainstay of the band. He can sub for all other symbols bar the scatter and lands in stacks with trails in the bonus round. He is also worth a tasty 40x for five on a line.

ANNIHILATOR SLOT RTP, VARIANCE AND PAYOUTS

Annihilator is a high variance game so watch your stake value as you prepare to spin. It will be tough going to unleash the big wins which will most likely come in the bonus round. The RTP is a reasonable 96.2% and the top payout is 5,000x. There are just 10 fixed paylines in play at any one time. Overall the pay model is quite average and should appeal to high risk fans more than casual slots players.

GAMEPLAY AND FEATURES

Annihilator Slot Feature

Annihilator comes with a good set of features to spice the game action up. They are as follows:

In Command Expanding Wilds with Guaranteed Wins

During the base game this feature occurs randomly. Any wilds on the reels expand to full height. If no win is forthcoming, then a re-spin occurs with the expanded wild locked. This process repeats until a win is triggered.

Fun Palace Pick-Me Bonus

Look out for the Doll Bonus scatter which can land on the middle reels only – 2, 3 and 4. You’ll need three or more to set off the Fun Palace Pick Me Round where you choose from Doll symbols to reveal multiplier prizes. The top prize is 50x but you can also land a free spins symbol which takes you directly to the other bonus round.

Set The World on Fire Free Spins with Wild Trails

You’ll need three or more free spins scatters in the base game to set this one off. 8 spins are awarded, with the enhancement of a wild stack visible in the middle of the reels before the round starts. The stack will roam across the reels before each spin, leaving a trail of fire in its wake. The fire burns on symbol stacks up to 3 high. Then, after the spin, if a wild lands anywhere on the trail, it tuns the entire trail wild.

It is also possible to add extra spins to your total, up to a maximum of 50, by landing more scatters.

OUR VERDICT

Annihilator Slot is a decent enough high variance game with an interesting twist in the way that it uses wilds to enhance the paytable in the bonus round. However, perhaps like the band that inspired it, the game is more likely to become a cult favorite amongst metal-slots fans than headline big stages any time soon. Overall the gameplay and the maths are too average to keep us interested for long and there are other games out there with far more energy and innovation right now. However, if you like your slots spooky, and House of Doom got your blood pumping, then Annihilator is definitely one you should try.
