ABOUT RAGING RHINO MEGAWAYS™ SLOT
Raging Rhino is a slot that needs little introduction. For The Slot Buzz team it’s certainly up there in the top five all time greats. It was the first to use the 4,096 ways to win game mechanic, and it’s savagely high variance means it holds back for long, long periods of time before unleashing some of the most epic win sequences you’ll ever experience – a perfect storm of wilds, free spins and cumulative multipliers that drive your win cache up to dream land levels.
The original game came out in 2014 and has been copied many times – Playtech’s Buffalo Blitz and Thunderkick’s Pink Elephants are notable examples. Since then of course technology and gameplay has moved on and now it’s all about Megaways™. Big Time Gaming’s revolutionary new mechanic is sweeping all aside and even timeless classics like Raging Rhino need the occasional tweak to keep up with the times. So there are no complaints here that WMS have decided to follow up on their Battleship! Direct Hit Megaways™ slot with a new version of their savannah-themed high variance monster.
So get ready to enjoy Raging Rhino with the full Megaways™ treatment – epic win lines, cascading wins, multipliers and free spins galore. And massive, massive win potential.
Gameplay, Symbols and Pay Tables
WMS haven’t tried to do anything crazy here, and fans of the original slot will be pleased to see that the Megaways™ version of Raging Rhino has the same graphical backdrop of African savannah lands. The lower value symbols on the reels are the Ace through to 9 whilst the higher value symbols are all represented by animals – the badger, the crocodile, the cheetah, the gorilla and the rhino. The latter is the highest paying symbol at 25x for six on a payline.
The wild symbol, which has always been of massive significance in Raging Rhino, is a setting sun. Look out for that one as it substitutes for all others except for the scatter, which itself is the diamond.
Raging Rhino Megaways™ Features
As a Megaways™ game, Raging Rhino performs in the same way that Bonanza does – six reels expanding from 2 to 7 rows high, creating a maximum of 117,649 ways to win. The cascading wins feature is also in affect. That means after any winning spin the winning symbols are removed and new ones drop into their place. If more win lines are created, so the process repeats.
But of course the real fun is reserved, as in the original, for the free spins round. You’ll need to land four of the diamond scatters to earn 8 spins. As with Bonanza, after each winning cascade, your multiplier value increases by 1x. This can increase an unlimited number of times. It is also possible to re-trigger the free spins by landing three more scatters during the round – this adds 8 more spins to your cache.
But that’s not all – WMS have kept the infamous Raging Rhino Wild Multiplier feature in the game. This was the multiplier that drove all the big wins in the original. It applies to wilds that land on reels 2 to 5 and is between 2x and 5x and is cumulative. This means that a very good combination of Wild Multipliers and Cascading Win Multipliers can bring up massive wins of well in excess of 10,000x.
Watch out as well for the Win Bonus Guarantee – if after the free spins round you end up with a win of less than 10x you will be given a 10x win instead!
THE SLOT BUZZ VERDICT
It’s not always a good idea to fix what ain’t broke, but in the case of Raging Rhino, there can be no doubt that WMS have done the right thing in strapping their classic slot to the Megaways™ game engine. This is a brilliant update of one of the all time great slots. Just remember that you’re dealing with high variance here and the wins will be infrequent. However, when they arrive, that combination of cascading wins, multipliers and wild multipliers has huge potential to land you a thrilling windfall. Good luck!
