Whether or not you are a fan of ELK Studios games there is no denying they have a canny knack of inventing some pretty nutty game themes. If you haven’t had a spin on the high-variance cyborg thriller, Kaiju, from earlier in 2018, or the heist-themed Lake’s 5, then you probably should. If you’re a fan of their Bloopers slot, then you’re going to enjoy Platooners – this is very much a follow-up to that game, featuring a cast of action-heroes locked and loaded with an array of weapons that they use to blast features onto the reels and take out gold-filled snakes in the bonus round.
It’s a lot of fun with some excellent graphics and wonderful animation sequences, particularly in the Platooners vs Snakes of Fortune bonus round. There is also some good win potential, and though this is not a top, top high variance game, it can still get the blood pumping as you chase the 2,500x top win.

During the base game, between your spins, you will sometimes see a Platooner randomly appear to fire weapons onto the reels. When he does, he’ll set off a feature of some sort. There are three Platooners and each has his own weapon and makes things happen in a different way.
Green Rocket Platooner –This little guy fires his rocket at reels one and three. Amid the explosions that follow you’ll see they fill with identical symbols, creating more win opportunities when the other reels come to rest.
Red Grenades Platooner –A bit of a mad monster this one – he’ll start throwing grenades at the reels left, right and center, causing Random Wilds to pitch up on reels 3, 4 and 5 during each spin.
Yellow Bullets Platooner – The little yellow Platooner has a heavy machine gun that he fires off at the middle three reels. This GUARANTEES at least ONE 5 OF A KIND PAYLINE.
With the yellow one it is possible to hit a line of 5 bonus symbols which gets you straight into the bonus round with all Platooners active.
This is quite bonkers. You’ll need to land three of more bonus symbols anywhere on the reels to kick off the bonus round where our brave Platooners take on the Gold-Filled Snakes.
There are 15 rounds initially, but landing more bonus symbols will add further options for attacks.
It is possible to launch simultaneous attacks on the snake with 2, or even all 3 Platooners, in which case the damage that can be done in one turn is higher. During the game there are opportunities to upgrade your weapons and also set off destructive bombs.
Each time the snake is defeated you move up a level with bigger payouts available.
Well we always feel we can count on ELK studios to do something a bit different. As we said, fans of Bloopers will feel right at home with Platooners. It’s a really attractive slot to play with some fun features and great animations.
