About Madame Ink Slot
Play n Go continue to enthrall with their game releases each month. We’ve recently enjoyed reviewing some interesting animal-themed slots in the form of Feline Fury and Rabbit Hole Riches, but now this evergreen outfit have turned their attentions to a relatively untapped source of inspiration – tattoo artistry!
Madame Ink invites players to explore the back streets of an Asian market, complete with a mysterious tattoo studio. The dark street corner in the background contains fruit and veg boxes, while lanterns hang from above. The reels are laid out in the middle of this scene, lit by an orange lantern and covered in Asian-style symbols, such as dragons, tigers and masks.
This new slot comes hot on the heels of Play n Go’s massively popular sequel to a classic, Reactoonz 2. Madame Ink has a standard RTP of 96.21%, a 10p minimum bet and a medium volatility rating, making it suitable for anyone with a taste for tattoos! It offers a good balance of risk to reward and an easy betting range for all pocket sizes.
Instead of paylines, you’ll find 243 ways to win, which means you simply have to land 3 matching symbols on adjacent reels from left to right to score a payout. There are some strong bonus features too, including Random Modifiers and a series of Free Spins bonus rounds, which could bring you closer to the 5,000x max payout.
Symbols and Paytable
The symbols in Madame Ink include a dragon, tiger, mask, bird and card suits with intricate designs – all tattoo designs offered by the talented artist, Madame herself. There is also an ink bottle with the letter ‘W’ on the front, which is the Wild symbol, along with the mystery koi fish symbol, which matches the tattoo on Madame Ink’s back at the start of the game.
Although the symbols are dramatic and colourful in appearance, they aren’t that generous when it comes to payouts. The best symbols can only award from 2x up to 5x your bet for 5 matches. The card suits pay even less.
We discovered similarly disappointing payouts in Octopus Treasure, another recent release from Play n Go. It’s certainly the bonus features that you need to chase here for the chance of pocketing the higher rewards in the tattoo studio.
Gameplay and Features
Wilds
The ink bottle with the letter ‘W’ on the front is the Wild symbol. This can substitute for the other symbols in the game, except the Scatter, to create more potential winning combinations.
Wild Ink Feature
The Wild can expand at random to turn all symbols on the reel into Wilds. If you hit a combination of Wilds, they pay up to 5x your bet.
Mystery Reel
The mystery symbol can land on the central reel and transform the whole reel into a high-paying stacked symbol.
Free Spins
If you land 3 or more Scatters, you’ll trigger one of 3 Free Spins rounds, along with a payout of 5x your bet. You could receive:
- 12 Free Spins with Wild Ink feature
- 6 Free Spin with Mystery Reel feature
- 3 Free Spins with both Wild Ink and Mystery Reel features
Our Verdict
Madame Ink is a stylish slot game with an Asian theme, a dark streetwise atmosphere and a cool, arty vibe. You don’t see many tattoo-themed slots about and this caught our attention straight away. Although the payouts aren’t the best from the symbol matches, the jackpot prize of 5,000x stake is decent and there are also some good bonus features here. Wilds appear regularly and you’ll get plenty of Wild Ink and Mystery Reel features cropping up at random to boost the payouts. We also like the choice of Free Spins bonus rounds for some extra excitement and a more personalized feel. The 243 ways to win combined with medium volatility means there are regular payouts, although you won’t find massive cash drops. It’s an easy play and there are no big surprises here. All in all, Madame Ink gives a steady slot ride, while the arty design and Asian flavour adds some extra character.
