EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT GAELIC GOLD SLOT
Leaving behind the high-variance mayhem of games like Punk Rocker and Barbarian Fury, Nolimit City travels to the lovely Irish countryside in search of the pot of riches hidden beneath an arching rainbow. Is this a scenario you’ve seen before? Of course, if you’re a frequent slots player, it does. Every game creator, from Barcrest to Yggdrasil, has plucked the Irish motif again and over again. Rainbow Riches (now a Megaways™ game) and the ludicrously-titled Wish Upon a Leprechaun are perennial favorites, but there always seems to be enough for one more. We at The Slot Buzz aren’t particularly fond of these games, but we do like Nolimit City’s current output, and this simple, stripped-back slot, which despite its basic 5-line setup still offers a very respectable 9,000x + potential, is one we think will stand the test of time and become something of a cult classic.
So be ready for some medium-volatility action, as well as another chance to try out Nolimit’s xNudge Wilds and free spins features.
SETTING UP THE GAME, SYMBOLS, AND GRAPHICS
Gaelic Gold is a cartoon-style slot set in the Irish countryside, complete with a lake and foggy, wet hills in the background. The reel set is only 3×3 and features Irish clovers around the edges. The production is of a decent quality, and the design is similar to that of rival Thunderkick’s games.
The cards Jack through Ace are low-value symbols on the reels. The premium symbols — the fortunate leprechaun shoes, his hat, pints of guiness (supposedly), lucky horsehoes, and, of course, lucky clovers – are shown down the left side of the reel set. The highest paying symbol is the four-leaf clover, which pays 15 times for three on a payline. Keep in mind that the maximum payline is only three symbols.
Keep an eye out for the stacked Leprechaun Wild symbol, which substitutes for all other symbols and pays 15x for three on a payline. He also activates the xNudge crazy function, which will be familiar to Nolimit City aficionados.
Finally, a Pot of Gold Bonus symbol is required to activate the free spins round.
NOTE: The number of paylines increases to nine during the free spins phase.
THE MOST IMPORTANT INFORMATION
In recent months, Nolimit City has released some really terrifying high volatility slots, but Gaelic Gold is a touch kinder on the player with a medium rating. The top payout is still a respectable 9,837x, and the Return to Player is likewise respectable at 96.15 percent. All of this adds up to a slot that will appeal to both casual and serious slot players, unlike games like Barbarian Fury.
FEATURES AND GAMEPLAY
The xNudge Wild and the Rainbow Free Spins are two easy elements in this game. They function like this:
The wild symbol is a friendly leprechaun who appears in a 3-high stack on any reel. If he only appears partially visible, he will be moved up or down until he fills the entire reel. In this case, a multiplier is added to every win involving the wild stack, and the amount of nudges necessary to place the stack determines the multiplier’s value.
Spins of the Rainbow
Rainbow Spins is the name of the free spins feature in this game. It is activated when the Pot of Gold bonus symbol appears in the middle of the reels. This provides you with a starting level of 5 spins. You will, however, receive boosts to your bonus round as a result of a Pick Me feature that activates before the spins begin. You have a total of 9 coins to pick from, each of which reveals one of the following:
Additional Spins – a coin reveals up to 25 additional spins.
Rainbow Lines — Two more paylines are added to the game. Rainbow Spins allows you to play with up to nine paylines.
Additional Win Multiplier – each win is multiplied by up to 5x.
There’s a START coin in the mix, so keep choosing coins until you find it and the free spins round starts. In the free spins round, the xNudge Wild feature is still active. When it activates, the multiplier from your wild stack is doubled by the value of the Rainbow Spins win multiplier.
It doesn’t take a slots genius to see that these enhancements have the potential to turn what starts out as quite a modest little slot into a beast where multiplier enhancements and additional paylines drive the win potential much, much higher than in the base game.
At first glance, Gaelic Gold appears to be a simple 3×3 Irish slot, one that most of us wouldn’t spend much time with. However, a closer examination reveals that there is much more to this game than meets the eye. It has a nice design and offers easy gameplay in the regular game, but once you enter the bonus round, it has a lot of potential. It also does it using a medium variance gaming engine, which means it’s not designed just for high-risk gamblers. Gaelic Gold will appeal to both casual gamers and those looking for a shot at the big time, which is why it received widespread notice in 2020.
