All About Atlantis Megaways™
ReelPlay is a relative newcomer to the world of online slots. They’ve arrived from Syndey, following in the footsteps of their Antipodean counterparts, Big Time Gaming. And, luckily for us, they’ve teamed up with BTG, acquiring a license to create slots using the Megaways™ technology. We’ve seen it in their Giza and Odin Infinity Reels games, where successive victories in a cascading sequence always add more rows to the set, potentially without limit. So we knew they weren’t afraid to blend innovation with the iconic Megaways™ format, and we were looking forward to seeing what they had in store for their next enlarged reel game.
We don’t get the Infinity Reels idea here; instead, we get a more stripped-down game with no free spins but a re-spins and jackpot feature to replace them. Whether or if this is sufficient for your tastes is a matter of personal preference. Without free spins, Megaways™ isn’t Megaways™ in our opinion. But before we pass judgment, let’s take a closer look to see how it all works.
Before we continue, let us simply acknowledge the high level of production in Atlantis Megaways™ – this is a fantastic-looking game with amazing visuals, as we have come to expect from ReelPlay. The artwork is smooth, and the sun-dappled deep depths of the ocean serve as a setting for mystery and drama.
The base game is played on a six-reel setup, which is usual for Megaways™ . There’s an additional 4×1 reel above the main set, with up to 7 symbols per row, for a total of 117,649 opportunities to win every spin. 3 or more matching symbols in ANY position on neighboring reels from left to right triggers a win.
RTP, Variance, and Top Payout
Atlantis is a medium volatility slot, unlike regular Megaways™ games. They may have made this one more accessible to a larger audience by lowering the volatility. It still has a respectable 96.10 percent average RTP and a highest payout of 8,640x. This isn’t as good as some of the huge Megaways™ releases from 2020, which can pay out over 20,000x every spin, but it’s still worth a shot. Of course, achieving anywhere close to that figure is exceedingly unlikely, so don’t expect to win more than 100x in most sessions.
Paytable and Symbols
The cards 9 through Ace represent low value symbols in this game.
Lionfish, Seahorses, Octopuses, and Dolphins are examples of premium symbols. Poseidon himself will appear, looking magnificent and serving as the top-paying symbol, paying out 100x the stake for six of a type. He’s also the only celebrity who will pay for two of a type.
Keep an eye out for the Temple, which is the Wild symbol that may be used to generate winning lines and only appears in the 4×1 top reel. There’s also a Treasure Chest scatter that might help you uncover the jackpots by triggering re-spins.
Features and Gameplay
Atlantis Megaways™ incorporates the majority of the conventional expanding reels game’s features, but replaces free spins with re-spins and a jackpot feature. Let’s have a look at how it all works:
Feature of Cascading Reels
The cascading wins engine, which is omnipresent in 2020, is something we’re all extremely familiar with. But, just to be clear, let’s recap:
When you hit a winning combination, the winning icons will vanish from their respective spots on the reels, and new symbols will appear to take their place. Cascades will continue until the reels are clear of winning symbols. That means there are several ways to win on every spin.
Feature of Jackpot Respins
The Scatter symbol is the Treasure Chest, and six or more of them anywhere on the reels will activate the Jackpot Respins feature. Three re-spins are awarded here, with all triggering Treasure Chests remaining on the reels. The number of respins is reset to three if more Scatters land during the respins.
Respins continue until no new Scatters appear on the reels, or until all of the slots on the reels are filled with Treasure Chests. Following that, all Scatters will disclose an immediate win value ranging from 1 to 100 times the stake. The total payoff from the Bonus round is then calculated by adding all of the winnings.
Feature of the Pearl Jackpots
Treasure Chests can disclose one of four Pearl Jackpots throughout your re-spins round, in addition to immediate winnings.
The Mini Jackpot is worth 10x the stake, the Minor Jackpot is worth 50x the stake, the Major Jackpot is worth 250x the stake, and the Grand Jackpot is worth 2,000x the stake. In a single Bonus round, the smallest two jackpots might be revealed many times.
Conclusion
In Atlantis Megaways, ReelPlay has created another excellent slot, albeit perhaps not as good as their Infinity Reels games. Free spins have been replaced with a re-spins system with potential jackpots to add some spice to the game. While it’s wonderful to switch things up, we’ll always favour the drama of free spins and multipliers from classic slots like Bonanza. However, not everyone has the same preferences, and some of you may prefer the Pearl Jackpots payouts of up to 2,000x. Apart from that, we adore this game – the visuals and story are fantastic, and the medium variance model ensures that the rewards are more evenly distributed than in most other Megaways™ games. Now we’re excited to see what ReelPlay has in store for us in 2021.
