Kingdom’s Edge Slot Review
ALL ABOUT KINGDOM’S EDGE SLOT
If you’re a fan of classic Microgaming slots like the Thunderstuck series and Immortal Romance then NextGen’s latest slot release, Kingdom’s Edge, may just be the slot you’re looking for this long, hot summer!
There is more than a little influence here from those titles, in the graphics, the gameplay – lots of expanding wilds, re-spins and multipliers – and the high volatility. In truth it’s not quite up there with MG’s greats (the graphics are more basic), but it still packs a good punch and with a top payout of 3,000x there’s something worth chasing down.
Let’s find out more …
Kingdom’s Edge Game Set Up
Kingdom’s Edge is a 5 Reel and 20 Payline slot game with an RTP of 95.4% and high variance. The game has an epic / fantasy feel to it, a little like Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings. The game is set in the forested-mountain kingdom of Elaris, ruled over by King Trenin de Saxe. This forms the backdrop to the reels, where the four warrior symbols and wilds drive the big wins.
You can play from $0.10 to $25 per spin.
Kingdom’s Edge Game Symbols
The lower value symbols in the game are the cards, Ace through to 9. There are four premium, high value symbols represented by the Keeper of the Magics’ Resmina-Mi, a scary looking Dwarf – Holta ‘Silver’ Mett, an Archer – Queen of Arrows Liliana Strait, and a Giant Knight, Omin Preesh.
Whilst the top payout for the highest paying premium is only 5x for five in a line, bear in mind that each one comes stacked up to 3 high on all reels.
There are also 2 wilds in the game – King Trenin deSaxe Silver, and King Trenin deSaxe Gold. This is where things get more interesting – they payout 0.5, 1.5, 5 or 30x for 2, 3, 4 or 5 on a payline.
The Gold Wild will appear stacked on reel 1, replacing all others except the scatter and the Silver Wild. Meanwhile, the Silver Wild appears on reels 2 to 5 and replaces all others bar the scatter and the Gold Wild.
Rally the Troops Feature
To chase down the big wins you really need to be hitting this feature. It is triggered when the Gold Wild lands stacked on reel 1.
A re-spin is given and any Silver Wilds that appear on reels 2 to 5 expand to fill ALL positions on their reel. Additionally, any HERO (premium) symbol that appears on the same reel as the Silver Wild will add an extra 1x multiplier (up to 5x multiplier) to the win value.
Additionally, an extra scatter, or Shield, symbol that appears on the same reel as a Silver Wild gets you an extra re-spin.
Finally, the expanded gold wild on reel 1 remains sticky throughout the re-spins.
Defend the Gates Free Spins
The scatter, or Shield, symbol gets you free spins when it lands 3 (15 spins), 4 (20 spins) or 5 (25 spins) times.
The exciting point here is that the Rally the Troops feature is also valid during the free spins round. So, if the Gold Wild lands partially on reel 1 it will be nudged to occupy the full reel and trigger Rally the Troops.
Additionally, if a Gold Wild lands fully stacked on reel 1 (without nudging) you will receive a random award of either 5 or 10 spins.
It is also possible to land more free spins through the scatters during the bonus round – and there is no limit to how many times this can happen.
THE SLOT BUZZ VERDICT
This is classic high variance slot fare. The game is slow-ish in the base rounds but can really pick up and throw some big wins out in the bonus round where the Defend the Gates and Rally the Troops features combine to produce high numbers of free spins, stacked wilds and multipliers. Remember, top payout is 3,000x.
