Awesome slot game with Atari-retro grahpics, 243 paylines, a 96.1% RTP and high volatility. A tough nut to crack but there are up to 20 free spins in the bonus round and extra levels and bigger wins as you collect more scatters.
Flame Busters Slot RTP and Review (Thunderkick)
MORE ABOUT FLAME BUSTERS SLOT
In summer 2017 Thunderkick unleashed Flame Busters in the UK, a brand-new slot with a distinctly retro-graphical style that brings back memories of Mario Karts and Atari games from the 80s.
But it’s not just the animation that’s eye-catching here. Thunderkick have tweaked up the RTP to a cool 96.1% and given us a high variance game with some really fun features in the base game and an innovative bonus round.
Like all volatile games you may experience some frustration in trying to unlock the free spins, but once you do there is plenty to get excited about – including low value symbols switching to high value ones and more free spins being added to your total. It’s not unlike the other 2017 release, Pink Elephants.
Flame Busters is available across all devices and you can try it for free right now on this page or jump straight into one of our recommended Thunderkick casinos to play for real cash.

GAME SET-UP AND PAYTABLE
This is a 5-reel game with 3 rows and 243 fixed paylines which pay out on combinations of identical symbols from left reel to right reel. The game screen will be familiar to all fans of Thunderkick slots and it feels good to be in a familiar place!
Stakes start at $0.10 and go up to $100.
On the paytable, the low paying symbols are coins with J, Q, K and A on them, whilst the higher paying symbols feature some pretty weird looking robots and creatures. The highest paying is Roasy McFry the firefighter his cat, Toasty – they payout as 10x for 5 in a row on a payline.
Look out as well for the Wild Symbols (a ‘W’) which subsitutes for all others except the scatter, the Alarm Bell Scatter (a fire alarm) which launches the free spins round, and a fire symbol (fire) that switches to reveal any one of the others except the scatter and the wild.
All the action takes place in a burning building where the windows, in a grid of 5×3, represent the reels. The flamebusters are our heroes, standing either side of the building, ready to douse the flames.
Flame Busters introduces some great little feature innovations as follows:
Fire Symbol – watch for this pitching anywhere on the reels because it transforms into any other symbol except the Wild or Scatter to create more winning lines. This gets particularly interesting in the Free Spins rounds.
Fire Drill – in the base game, this may be triggered at any time where anywhere between 1 and 5 low value symbols are transformed into fire symbols.
Wild – transforms into any other symbol except the scatter.
Alarm Bell Scatter – this is the big one – three or more scatters trigger the bonus round and give you free spins. Three scatters set up 10 free spins, four set up 15 free spins and five scatters set up 20 free spins.
And the fun has only just started once you hit the bonus round! As the reels spin you ‘collect’ more scatters and unlock new levels. Three scatters are needed for each new level (a floor in the building), and with each one, two more free spins are added.
Coin Ignition – when each level is unlocked the current lowest value coin becomes a fire symbol for the rest of your free spins! This is an awesome feature and its where the really big wins stack up. Imagine hitting level five with all five coin symbols transformed to fire symbols, revealing new high paying symbols with each pitch of the reels!
THE SLOT BUZZ VERDICT
Upon its release, Flame Busters from Thunderkick quickly became one of favourite games of 2017. Since then it’s actually been surpassed by Pink Elephants, but that’s another story. Be warned, this game is highly volatile and can frustrate the hell out of you, but the free spins round when the coin ignition ramps up is well worth waiting for.
